Giant Table

Our giant table is built from an old engineering machine prototype, made of meranti wood. We estimate it can seat up to 20 people

This table came from the prototype of a machine for the gold mines, that was known as the “James Table”. This table shook the rocks and separated the gold ore.

The prototype had been standing for a few decades in the backyard of an old engineering company, and had a rubber mat on top. After removing the rubber, this beautiful meranti wood fame was revealed, and we built the metal frame to support it.

The legs are from old sleeper wood pieces, that were used as well in the factory as a bench top.  And the detail on the metal frame, to help hold the frame to the wooden sleepers, are old motorcycle sprockets, and also pieces from another wall bracket found in the old engineering factory.  Even the bolts are from the factory.

The table will have glass on top of it, specifically cut to fit the oblong unusual shape of this prototype-now-table-top, and will only be made and cut once the table is sold.  The glass is included in the price.

This table will make a very unusual patio table for family lunches, boardroom table for executive meetings, or restaurant table for the restaurant wanting a large table for their industrial style theme.  We estimate it can seat up to 20 people.

Dimensions of table:

  • Height: 0.78 meters
  • Width: 1.65 meters
  • Length: 4.88 meters
  • Weight: we don’t know, but it’s heavy – it takes 6 people to move it.
  • It has a most unique angular shape.
  • Two edges are square, whereas the other two edges are rounded.

History: This prototype is part of our Simco Range, and was reclaimed from an old engineering company that was closing down.  The founder started the family business in an old cow shed in Johannesburg, and grew it over many years to a thriving 1400 square meters factory, servicing mostly the mining industry.

Uniqueness: We’re excited about this reclaimed wood, as there is only one more prototype, so this is a very unique, rare, and unusual, industrial looking piece of furniture  that will be a talking piece for sure.
